Research shows that sometimes parents with learning disabilities are discriminated against. People First (Scotland) campaigns for parents to be treated fairly and to be given the support they need to bring up their children themselves where possible.
We have a Parents’ Group that meets once a month in Edinburgh.
We also provide individual advocacy support to parents and training by parents with learning disabilities for professionals.
The Parents’ Group Meets on a Thursday from 10.30 – 12.30 once a month in Edinburgh
All parents with learning difficulties are welcome to attend. The group is for parents who have their children living with them and those who don’t.
Some parents travel from outside Edinburgh to come to the group.
We can help with transport if needed.
There is a Crèche provided.

The Parents’ Group held an event to celebrate our 10th birthday on 26th January 2017. It was great to celebrate with parents from Glasgow and Fife and professionals as well as parents from the group. We made a timeline of the main things we did each year and a list of the training, policy, information and research work we have done. We hope you enjoy reading these.
